Teamsters 662 Go On Strike at New Dairy Select Milk to Protest Unfair Labor PracticesCompany Refuses to Reach Common Sense Solution on Health Care Benefits
(DEPERE, Wisc.) – Teamsters Local 662 members at New Dairy Select Milk, a subsidiary of Borden Dairy formerly known as Morning Glory, have gone on strike to protest unfair labor practices at the company. The workers produce sour cream for a number of well-known brands, including Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Hello Fresh.
“Borden Dairy is saying ‘take it or leave it,’” said Tom Strickland, Local 662 Secretary-Treasurer. “The employer isn’t bargaining in good faith; this offer is terrible and concessionary. We’re not going to take it.”
Negotiations have reached a stand-off over the company’s refusal to reach a compromise on the workers’ health care coverage. Local 662 is pushing for the workers to join a Teamster health care plan, which would offer better coverage at a lower rate for both parties. Borden Dairy is demanding that the workers receive the company’s health care coverage, which would force them to pay higher premiums and deductibles and come out-of-pocket for a wide variety of services that would be covered under a Teamster plan.
“There are more than one million workers covered under Teamster health care plans, and hundreds of employers are signatories to them – including other Borden facilities,” said Peter Finn, Teamsters Western Region Vice President and Food Processing Division Director. “This posturing makes no sense, and the company needs to give its workers what they deserve.”

Leinenkugel's Teamsters on Strike in WisconsinBrewery Workers Demand Fair Wage, Fair Contract
(CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis.) – Leinenkugel’s Brewing Company workers represented by Teamsters Local 662 went on strike July 10 after rejecting the meager wage increases offered by the beermaker, which is owned by the global brewery giant Molson Coors.
“Leinenkugel’s has been brewing beer in Chippewa Falls for over 150 years, which is a point of pride for both the facility’s workers and the entire community,” said Tom Strickland, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 662. “That storied history of success wouldn’t have been possible without the hardworking Teamsters who keep this operation running. Molson Coors needs to respect these workers by agreeing to a fair contract.”
“We are sick of the corporate greed and want a fair and equitable pay increase,” said Dann Jackson, a maintenance technician who has worked at the brewery for 16 years. “We are underpaid given our qualifications and the number of different jobs that we do.”
About 40 workers on strike voted overwhelmingly to reject Leinenkugel’s last, best and final offer, which did not come close to giving workers what they deserve. The Teamsters voted 98 percent in favor of authorizing a strike after their contract ended in May.
“Leinenkugel’s needs to quit stalling and pay up now,” said Dan Boley, Local 662 Business Agent. “These workers are fired up and ready to fight for the pay increases they are due.”
Teamsters rallied on the second day of the picket line the morning of July 11 as passing cars honked in a show of community support.
